4. The Parka Squirrel

The Parka Squirrel (pronounced par-kee) is one furry character with more personality than it knows how to use. They can appear to be a stick of wood standing in the grass and when you walk too close to them they will snap into a hole as they tell you what they think of intruders. Their tail is constantly busy when they run. The mouth takes over when they stop running. They have been known to work their way up to the lens of a running movie camera, chattering all the while, in their quest to become known as the nosiest of animals. Few people can take an active interest in watching Parka Squirrels without getting many laughs. Alaska Natives sometimes call them “sic-sic-puk”.

The Parka Squirrel sits so upright, when he sees a hunter in sight.
The he wiggles his tiny nose, and off like a streak he goes.
His tail spins fast like a tiny propeller, and he changes directions so fast.
Then he stops, and upright sits the little fellow as if scanning over his past
Then “POP”, down into his hole he goes.
