Polar Bears are actually
very large animals and may weigh 1,000 pounds. They feed mostly on seals and
sometimes eat fish and kelp. To see a polar bear swim is to see rhythm
and gracefulness in motion. They handle their weight marvelously well in and
out of the water. In winter they do not hibernate. The young cubs are raised in
snow dens or caves. The polar bear’s natural home is in the northern polar and
ice regions.
Polar bears live around the North Pole,
But often times miles out to sea.
They sit on the ice floes as they roll,
On waves of the cold Arctic sea.
These big fat bears with creamy white coats;
With strong and hairy soled feet,
Will swim like they thought they were a boat,
While hunting for more food to eat.
Watch these bears with monstrous feet,
Snatch seals and fresh fish to eat,
Then jump off the ice and swim so free,
In waves of the cold Arctic sea.
